in the first release of rome based nvda, cosimo damiano brings 4 tracks together between jungle, techno and ambient. the audiovisual work traces the mythological imagery recalled by the etymology of its name (diana nemorense the pre-roman goddess of hunting), and its mood, which at times takes a dramatic turn, with the individual tracks transmitting a dark and nostalgic sensitivity.

new york city house / disco imprint. on a1: well being s remix of detroit jevantte s, mr. piano man is a slamming baseline loop driven groove. next up ari bald and martín miguel, of better listen records fame, bring a summer edit fit for a wbls barbecue. on the b side we have a special filtered out cut with a big low end from tilman. finally on b2, a track from higgins with filtered strings on top of raw house drums.

serbia s disco fruit crew continue to bring the heat with their razor sharp edits and productions mining the golden era of funk-fuelled part music. on this occasion dr packer and loshmi have joined forces for two certified bangers that rank highly on the boogie scale. -in case of emergency- is a tidy reworking of gayle adams -emergency- that keeps the groove heavy but stretches the jam out for extended dancefloor pleasure. on the flip, it s british funk outfit delegation that get the disco fruit treatment, winding up with the stretched out delights of -house in downtown,- guaranteed to get any soiree worth its salt shaking down to the ground.

peter croce takes the baton back from blair french for rocksteady disco’s 9th release entitled agape. its vision is similar to standing still is an illusion, with peter’s unique take on this afro­brazilian deep house three­tracker.

brand new detroit duo man vs indian man comprises ian finkelstein (of scott grooves’s overdubs fame) and even haywood. complementing each other’s strengths, the pair make the perfect match as they pour out thick viscously barbed future soul in thick gooey doses, both “ice accountant” and “cloud nine” are wrapped in foggy layers of sleepy textures as the falsetto vocals and lean instrumentation cut through with dreamy delight. remixes from the legendary egyptian lover (cosmic electro), fellow detroitian pontchartrain (filtered disco house) and brazilian table daddy (lolloping dream tech).

flevans returns with a killer 45 for the funky dancefloor! leading the way is “who’s got me” - an up tempo disco/boogie cut with more slap bass than a clone army of larry grahams… it’s a tasty dancefloor number with a big top line from none other than laura vane (mj cole, gnarls barkley, laura vane and the vipertones) who absolutely owns the vocal duties as anyone who is familiar with her work would expect. oooh weee!
over on the other side we have more classic-sounding flevans material with the party starting funk breaks of “take your money”. his signature jazzy keyboard and guitar licks converse with cheeky vocal samples all flying in and out of this slick production in a delightful fashion. it’s all about the beats on this one – it’s a guaranteed foot mover!

physician by day, musician by night, moonlighter makes his production debut after steadily holding down rocksteady disco labelmate duties. “give us rain (ah mila)” begins the 12” beautifully, blending ethereal african samples with moonlighter’s own melodic and percussive performance. “kinematic” kicks off the flip on a more cosmic and tech­y tip, with bubbly synth stabs and drums. “a certain average kind of normal experience” closes out this opus with a massive peak hour bassline, emotive synthesis, and a vocal sample from everybody’s favorite uk philosopher. the moonlighter ep is a culmination of his diverse production and digging ethos by blending the percussive with the melodic, the peak hour with the subdued, and the head with the heart.

hilltown disco are back with another attention-grabbing release. the a-side sees the return of the duo who can do-no-wrong, crossmods with an electro-masterclass that takes you on an out-of-this-world journey, followed by a clean-cut, snappy remix of the crossmods track by the belgium act, datawave. flip-over the record and we have acid-genius chris moss acid contributing a re-mastered version of his beautifully-chaotic acidic-banger, the mossquito. continuing the acid theme, dundee producer ansata gives us a real 303 work-out that is guaranteed to fill any dance floor. last but not least, crossover network join the hilltown disco family with a high energy, banger with an iconic old-school electro vocal though out to complete the release.

the german boogie compilation “boogie on the mainline” presents a selection of 10 rare disco tracks from germany plus one more tune from austria, all of them, originally released between 1980 and 1987. check! . the fully licenced album contains little known tunes by groups like imagination (which you can also see on the cover of the lp), squish, upstairs, the poptown syndicate and more. as the boogie-ish post-disco side of german music history still basically remains undiscovered as of yet, “boogie on the mainline” hopefully will shed some light again on 11 rare gems that were mainly published on small or private labels. the album is released on loudly pressed double vinyl with gatefold jacket on the new artless cuckoo sister label boogie on the mainline records. it includes extensive liner notes by compiler john raincoatman aka dj scientist.

mang dynasty are the collective force of bill brewster and ray mang. both should need no introduction! together they combine to form the mighty mang dynasty, and deliver crash the box a riot of afrobeat, house and disco stylings, laced expertly with horn stabs and vocal chops, guaranteed to light up any club or festival stage. on the remixes are two exciting up and coming producers currently making waves: lord leopard offers a chunky, abstract bumping house version that s good for the floor. tee mango takes a loopy disco excursion, with squelchy synth stabs and party starting vocal.

after making a promising start with their first installment, disco pocho return with a second round of expertly selected, sliced and segued groovers from the parties of yesteryear. javi frias is the cat on the buttons this time around, taking two loose and limber disco funk burners and giving them just the right subtle touch to set the place alight. its a shame has an easy tempo, but there s more than enough heat embedded in the looped up slices frias gets busy with it s a dense, rugged and rock-tinged sound that should please brass construction fans. on the flip, you got what i need turns things up with a powerful, diva-led gem that s heavy on the one, just like it should be.

the albums one of ra s greatest from the 70s recorded in italy in 1978, and featuring some incredibly otherworldly keyboards that are some of his most enigmatic on record! original tracks from the album include disco 3000, an incredible workout on synthesizer, with a tiny bit of drum machine, a little space is the place breakdown, and all of the wild sound you d expect from a sun ra album plus more long tracks the sweetly soulful friendly galaxy, a great soul jazz number, and dance of the cosmo aliens, which has spooky organ, frenetic bass, and somber percussion. check!

time for another adventure down the east . . . disco hamam is back with their 4th presentation of turkish & oriental killer disco edits. this time, tokyo matt tells you a tale of the oriental with a fist full of dollars, whilst afacan soundsystem has a thing or two to tell about the disco.. east is east but these are the real deal yeast free dance floor beasts.

the music on this ep was conceived in china, between 1989 and 1993. the original tracks were mixed to dat in real time, in a small neighbour-proof studio inside my apartment in macau, a 19th floor with a view to the hurricanes. there’s a small, unexpected or improbable story behind each track, some little magic fused with the local atmosphere, certainly guaranteeing their lasting authenticity 25 years later.

on the flip things get even stronger with the proto-house banger “girl like you” a sick soulful number with with a biggest swinging kick drum i have ever heard, both proper club material.
